the end of Dr. Seuss Week!

Friday, March 5, 2010

On Monday they decorated their classroom door for a contest. On Tuesday {Chloe Crashed} & fireman and policemen read to the children. On Wednesday each class finished this sentence: Reading is important because________. On Thursday, they had a book exchange. I went through the books and found three duplicates for her to trade. She came home with a book for her, a book for Seth and a book to share! I was pleasantly surprised by her sweetness!!! Today, Friday, the students were encouraged to wear silly socks and crazy hats like the characters from the many stories by Dr. Seuss. We weren't as crazy as we could have been...
I am getting very excited for St. Patrick's Day. The kids have found that they don't like the candies I picked out for our treat jars. I told them that I picked them for their color ~ not their taste ~ crazy kids!!! But the gold candies are wonka chocolate eggs they would love if I hadn't told them that their might be peanut butter in them... I am making horseshoe pizza with lays 'golden' potato chips for dinner with green kool aid and dyed green vanilla pudding! I might dye their macaroni and cheese green for lunch with some green grapes.
This picture is for Aunt Erin. These are one of the two PJ's I found for Seth at Costco. These are the size 6's and are just a little too long in the sleeve. But should last through next winter.

{plus they came with a short sleeve shirt}

Merry Christmas

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

We are having some holiday difficulties at our house. It seems we are skipping over Thanksgiving and moving on towards bigger and better holidays! Last night the Madagascar Christmas special was on and the kids loved it! Dan and Chloe love to watch the original cartoon 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' over and over. They both cry a little when I put it away. Today they decided it was time to fish their movie out of the boxes in the basement. I was so not ready for the mess and stress of putting up the Christmas tree. Last year our tree lights gave out and because we have a pre-lit tree, we had to remove all the lights that were practically surgically in place... So, I knew I would have to sting the lights on the tree because I didn't do what I swore I would do and buy a tree on clearance after Christmas last year. I pulled the tree out of the box and strait off the bat, one of the bottom branches fell off. This should have been an omen! But I persevered and removed the remaining bottom row of branches. This took tools from Dan's tool box and a few minor swear words! This is how far I got:

This is how far I got before the dancing and whining, the begging and pleading began. "Can we put the ornaments on yet, Mom?" I repeated myself with all the calm of a 1950's mother {who never raised her voice} that they have to try to be patient and wait until all of the lights are on until about the 2000th time they danced and begged. I finally got half way up the tree and somehow ran out of lights. Now, I admit that I am trying to string the lights carefully so that the wire doesn't show. But I removed the bottom most row of the largest branches and all of the lights we used last year only fit on half of the tree... All that I could hope was that I have a box of lights still in the basement that Dan missed. No such luck. I had to buy more lights and hope to finish stringing up the tree to put these poor children out of their misery!
This is a picture of Dan {hiding}, sitting on the heater looking at his Christmas lights & eating candy. Even though the blanket has turned into a quilt and the lights have become slightly pornographic, there is just something wonderful about Christmas Traditions!!!

Monster Bathroom

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

Today I went to Kohl's with Seth while Chloe was at school. He loved that my hair kept blowing out the sun roof! We found a shirt for him that was on sale for $11, it came with a skate board! He see's big boys riding these scary rip sticks and tells me thats what he wants for his birthday... I also found a pair of shoes for me on clearance for $12. Sunday's paper had a coupon for $10 of any $20 purchase, so I got the skate board for $5 and the shoes for $6! SCORE!!! I also found these:

I loved it when I first saw it but it is so expensive
{$44 for the shower curtain alone}
I love the lotion dispenser and the toothbrush holder.
The shower curtain hooks I could live without.
The rug is cute but the theme could be over done!
I have had this sitting in my project box for years:
If I bought the right colors of flece to match the shower curtain
I could pull it off with just buying the shower curtain for $21.49!
{on sale for $31.49 then $10 off}
I could make monsters out of the same colors of flece in the rug and could finally have a children's bathroom that is decorated. I have had such a hard time trying to find the right theme that isn't too girly for the kids bathroom. I can't wait to make this happen!

Fall Decorations

Monday, October 5, 2009

I love Fall, I love the cooler weather, I love the colors, I love Halloween and I love Thanksgiving. I haven't had time to put out this season's decorations because of our fish lake trip. I remembered that we have the Davis Family FHE on the first Monday of each month and that today was our turn to host it some time Saturday night. I started digging through the boxes of crafts in the basement and was able to get everything set out and the house cleaned just in time for Dan's family to arrive:

Spooky Treats:
Love, love, love gourds! {They are not balls to be thrown, Dan!!!}
I try to have areas that change with seasons instead of spreading all over the house,
there isn't a picture of Jesus in my kitchen as well as any fall decor {Laura}!

And even though it doesn't really go,
I proudly display Chloe's Frankenstein that she made last year in Pre School:
This picture is mostly for Laura, as well:
Eat your heart out!I can't believe you left all of these pumpkins at Farmer Dabb's
They were so lonely and sad without you, we had to bring them all home!
Here are some of them on our front porch steps:
The Biggest ones are safe on the porch by our wicked witch
who is brewing up some scary potion {I need a fog machine}:
I love Halloween, I can't wait to take the kids trick or treating, I can't wait to
celebrate Josh's 25th birthday, I can't wait for Chloe's field trip, I just love Fall!
