Green Goodness

Sunday, February 17, 2013

I wish I was putting up spring decorations but I am glad to report that I finally put away all of my snowmen and snow flakes!  Ever since that groundhog poked his head out of his hole I have been itching for a little sunshine.
I love to decorate my front room with Candy for each holiday but I found myself filling my jars and shelves with green items that I already had around the house.  I love my green apples from the kitchen and a stash of green books from the family room:
But yes, the neighbor kids don't need to fret, there is still candy in the jars!
*no comments needed about the age of the sweets!!!

Fun with Fondue

Friday, February 15, 2013

This was going to be our Valentines Feast but that Heart Shaped Pizza from Pappa Murphys was just way too easy!  The kids love the fondue forks and being able to dip EVERYTHING.  Since we had to include our dad ~ everyone had their own mini fondue bowl of cheese...
We tried fingerling potatoes for the first time and they were fun and delicious.  Chloe loved the asparagus and Seth mostly ate bread and little smokies.  We use Dan's Mom's recipe:

1 can Campbell's Cream of Shrimp Soup
8 ounces Sour Cream
8 ounces Cream Cheese
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce

100th Days Smarter

Tuesday, February 12, 2013

In 1st Grade they invite the kids to dress up, like they think they will look when they are 100. Seth really enjoyed this and after I talked to him about what he could wear and he got dressed, he thought he should add a little stuffing for an old man belly

I looked at the DI for an old, cheap cane but couldn't find one.
We did find these awesome glasses, which he LOVED!

Field Trip

Today was Chloe's class field trip to Centerville to watch 'Under the Sea' in 3D:
It was really awesome and fun to watch!

Then we bussed it over to the Hill Air Force Base Museam and did a scavenger hunt:
After lunch and a little exploring, the kids got to participate in some experiments:

The kids had lots of fun and we can't wait to come back on our own - with Seth!

Protesting Winter

Saturday, February 9, 2013

I was woken up early this morning to squeals and giggles of terror and delight!  When I ventured out of my warm bed I found both Chloe and Seth dressed head to toe in black.  Dan was hiding and scaring them.  They were thieves in the night and were trying to be sneaky.  Grandma Sue sent home a Parrot SQUIRT GUN that Dan was using this morning.  Seth got the gun away from him and Dan was crouching within earshot and I whispered to him that I had bought some super soakers last summer and they were in the basement high up on the shelf (for maybe the last day of school or fathers day or a hot and boring day...) & (I got them on clearance at Target).  He snuck downstairs to our cold unfinished basement and quietly took it out of its packaging.  Then he proceeded to fill it up with icy water from our food storage reserves and a water fight ensued!!!  Seth knew where my secret supply was and I told him to go and get one while Dan was busy chasing after Chloe!  They turned all of the lights on and replaced their black opp gear for swimming suits.

After 2 minutes we made them choose between stopping & putting the guns away until a warmer day or going outside with them:
 Chloe
Seth
I can't think of anything crazier than having a water fight in the middle of falling snow but what are you going to do.
"I hate that ground hog!" said Chloe
Then she came inside to get warm, Seth on the other hand...

Was making Chicken Pot Pie for dinner and decided to cut the carrots into heart shapes, like I saw on pinterest (shocking) and thought they turned out so cute!

I had a few left over that I sent to school in Seth's lunch for a surprise:)

Wedding Bliss

My how the time flies when you are having fun!
I really don't know how the years have passed so quickly.  It seems like the honeymoon phase of our marriage lasted so long, 5 years later we had kids and I can't even remember our time alone.  There are so many great things about Dan, there are a lot of good things and even more OK things!!!  Being married to this man for the last 180 months I have loved getting to know him a little bit better.

1.  I love his laugh, it's like a huge guffaw that he shares too infrequently
2.  I love his large hands.  He has hands like my dad: hardworking, tough, manly.
3.  I love his sense of humor.  He makes me laugh.  He usually acts surprised when he catches me smiling at him when he is being silly with the kids, "What?"
4.  I love his skills as a provider.  I have always wanted to be a full time mother and he makes it so!
5.  I love his Butt!
6.  I love his snow shoveling and lawn mowing desires.  He has to have it done a specific way and would rather not have any help.
7.  I love that he is a great Dad.  It was one of his most attractive qualities that lured me to him.
8.  I love his outdoor skills.  He can be wild like Bear Grylls but doesn't have to go it alone.  He takes us fishing, camping, off roading on ATV's, snowmobiling, skiing, boating...
9.  I love how he takes care of the things that he loves.  This is related to #8.  He cleans the boat and the tent and the camping gear in the same way he takes care of the grass (#6).
10.  I love the agreement he's made with Chloe, that she won't marry until she's age 32.
11.  I love the way he rough houses with Seth almost every day.
12.  I love his dimples that are so deep and freely flashed while doing anything listed in #8.
13.  I love that he watches TV with me and lets me bug and bother him during the commercials!
14.  I love the breakfasts he'll make for me, in bed.
15.  I love how he loves Me!

Many thanks to my friend Bonnie for watching the kids while we went out to Red Robin for dinner.

Weird Science

This week at school I am volunteering for the book fair and grandparents week. We run our little cash registers and help the grandmas pick out books for the kids.  We are dressed up like mad scientists!

Chloe and Seth stopped by during lunch and did a little shopping and posed for the pictures.
Thanks to Grandma Davis for sending $$$ in place of her presence!

Perler Fuse Bead Fun

Monday, February 4, 2013

The kids have been on a kick this past weekend. Dan has been teasing and rearranging beads to much complaining!!! Today he got home before the kids (it's always a race) and he started messing around with the stuff the kids were working on. Then he started making his own creations, but they weren't just better they were bigger!

A double shark of Dans creating!

Then he wanted to go bigger and made a replica of Beaker that was three tiles long.

I was asked to help because the design was done and his fingers hurt!
