Grandpa

Friday, August 19, 2011

Oh, how I love Dan's dad.  He is the most generous man.  He is a dedicated father and grandfather; a hard worker who is the ultimate outdoorsman, scout and example.  He is the busiest person I know who stretches his time and skills to the maximum on a regular basis.  He loves to water ski on his birthday and we love to witness his agility and youth.  He is definitely a cool grandpa!  Happy 59th Birthday Bry!!!

Fish Lake 2009

Saturday, October 3, 2009

This is what you get if you choose some word, other than CHEESE!

We had such a good time, the weather was wonderful with a bit of wind, and we caught quite a few fish. This was the first time we have ever actually brought fish home to eat!

We'll be back soon, Fish Lake!

Dan's Dream Fishing Trip

Friday, October 2, 2009

This morning we woke up to a quiet cabin, with no men! They left to go freeze their toes off ~ before the sun began to shine! We got dressed and ready for the day and were waiting and waiting for them to get back for some hot breakfast. After sitting in a 12x24 foot box with two restless munchkins we went for a walk.

This is The Fish Lake Lodge, it is huge and very old. We were looking for textures to make rubbings of and they loved how the old logs felt.

It was so cute, Chloe kept saying they were protection! "Oh mom, isn't this a great protection, feel it!" By the end of the day and by the time for her to tell Grandpa all about it she had it right, So many TEXTURES!
We found lots and lots of leaves and they posed for me ~ a little bit!
I loved the deck on the lake side of the lodge. The old wood slats were making Chloe very nervous. She was walking very carefully, leery of the differences in the planks. Seth just wanted to find more sticks and bugs!
On the boat, while the sun was shining, the kids kept bugging grandpa. Chloe helped rearrange all of his lures and Seth kept trying to borrow them, while almost snagging Grandpa each time he cast... When the wind picked up it was very, very chilly and we would hunker down trying to get out of the breeze.
The leaves were so beautiful on the mountain side. The many colors of orange, yellows, reds and browns were in abundance and it seemed we were alone on the lake.

Grandpa must have taken all of the pictures of people actually catching the fish... Hopefully I will be able to share them soon!
Munchkins or Monsters? You decide!!!

We are on our way!

Thursday, October 1, 2009

There were a few things to be packed for our long weekend at Fish Lake. I made sure MY SUITCASE was in the truck, like 4 times {last year I left my bag home...}! I carefully selected the food we would eat and prepared it as much as humanly possible so that the work to be done at the cabin would be minimal. We had invited Dan's dad and grandpa to come with us but after the funeral, Grandpa Steve had things to do. I got a call Tuesday evening from Dan's mom and she was being coerced into coming! This morning at 8 AM we met at work and loaded everything up into Grandpa's car, everything but our grandma...

I would not recommend driving for four to five hours unless you have the fabulous DVD player with headphones for the munchkins ~ it is so awesome!

We got to the lake and launched the boat. Dad and Dan both caught some sort of fish. After Dinner, Chloe and I stayed at the cabin and caught a glimpse of these deer: She was very quiet when she told me there were deer outside and we quietly went out to the deck to check them out. Two deer were directly under our deck and quickly moved away ~ scaring us quite easily!

The cabin was great, the heater worked well and once the boys dragged their skunked selves inside and Seth woke up from his nap on the boat we enjoyed brownies and ice cream before going to bed!
