Parent Teacher Conferences

Tuesday, November 9, 2010

Chloe became very insistent that she come with me to my appointment with her teacher tonight.  She said that her teacher was very excited to see all of her students with their parents.  I thought this was a chance for the adults to talk but at the last minute gave in and let her come.  I have been a little worried about the simpleness of the reading material coming home with the Chlo-myster.  Very babyish books that she just breezes through.  Tonight her teacher informed me that after assessing the classroom she was able to test those children on a higher reading level and Chloe is currently reading like a second grader in her third month of the school year.  Her teacher will be going over the librarians head and Chloe will be able to check out chapter books and those others on her skill level.  She will be working on addition and memorizing math equations up to the number twelve.  She also said that my little girls handwriting is exceptional for a left handed writer and is always improving.

We will continue reading our Romona books together.  I have a few Junie B Jones books and will start gathering the magic tree house books.  Any other suggestions that your kids love?

I have always been a book and math nerd growing up.  I want my children to be smart.  I worry that Chloe will be bored in school but hope that this advantage will give her the help she needs in every subject ~ especially boys!

On Monday's I volunteer in Chloe's class. That is when I get my act together and remember that first the thing to do when the week begins is to get my butt out of bed and look presentable so that my sweet child won't have to ask me if I could get fancy!!! (Thank you Hannah and Becky!!!) Chloe loves doing her homework and I help all of the children pass of their Skill Sets.
They are so C.U.T.E.
Seth also love kindergarten:
While it is warm enough {for me},
he gets to play in the kindergarten playground!

He still has problems on the spinning baskets:
This afternoon, we headed back to school for our very first Parent Teacher Conference!!! It really was a complete waste of time, I already knew that she is a genius and talkative! Chloe's teacher really appreciates having her in the class. She said she always is helping and works really hard to finish her work. She scored very high on the D.I.B.L.E.S. test and will begin to bring home little books that she will be able to read after Thanksgiving break. She also gave me some suggestions of new words to add to her flash cards; all of the sight words for the year, the colors, the days of the week and the months of the year, as well as shapes {did you know kindergartner's learn about rhombus, trapezoids, and hexagons}. Chloe's teacher showed me some of the work they were doing and was excited to show me some of the writing Chloe had done with her class. In their journals the class drew pictures of their hands and then wrote I see my ___ and drew a picture of a hand above the line. Chloe sounded out and spelled h a n d all by herself, without being asked to or without asking how to do so... I think her teacher thought I would be surprised but Chloe spells out every word she sees. She tries to sound out many of the words we read together and after we have read a {pre-K level 1} library book a couple of times ~ she can usually read it pretty correctly by herself and to Seth. Her teacher told me this was in fact a big deal. Normally a child would sound out hand and write hnd ~ phonetically, but not my girl! The question queen has been vindicated! Got to love her!!!
