If you follow the yellow curve road sign you can see the snow that covered the road. It didn't seem very deep but it was 7 or 8 car lengths long. Once we were actually stopped, it was already 4:50 PM; we were going to be late for dinner and there would be no way Dan would be shoveling us out of this situation.
Stuck in the truck, we waited to be rescued. I didn't exactly feel helpless but the three ~ that's right, three patrol cars that had arrived on scene wouldn't let anyone too close to the snow. The crowd swelled near the police men; a plethora of snowboarders and skiers needing a first hand look of the blocked road. I was surprised at the different fashions that ranged between the serious skier to the laid back snow boarder. I never imagined the slopes as another runway but it has been years since I stuffed myself into a pair of ski bibs...
Chloe ans Seth were too restless after Dan stepped out of the truck to look around. They were let out of the truck and allowed to play in the snow, by Dan.

It wasn't long before there was a problem of our own ~ not at all related to the avalanche! Seth's foot sank too deep in to the snow covered mountain side and he couldn't get his foot out. Chloe tried to help him and we were offering sound advice from the cab of the truck.

But Seth's cries became too loud and we had to move into action.

Dan rushed in to be the hero and asked, "Now what did you lose?"
Daddy saves the day!!! All boots were found, all socks were covered!!!

Fluctuating between being hot and cold, we were able to keep our hunger at bay because we stopped off at
Gosner's and picked up some squeaky cheese.
{This is me trying to show you how the cheese squeaks!} The kids'
tushies were frozen but they got to enjoy their room temperature chocolate and root beer milk, YEAH!
{Dan did mention that if we hadn't stopped for the glorious cheese we would have more than likely passed through the canyon before the cursed avalanche...}
I was getting a little stir crazy myself, waiting, waiting, and waiting for who knows how much longer. Did I mentioned that I needed to go to the bathroom!!! I tried to distract myself by taking more pictures. Here are the best from Dan's session:
He kept pulling these great faces, he even did blue steel from zoolander! He joked while he was sending out the vibe, "Oh, I pulled a muscle!"
This woman was walking back to her car and had to walk past us. She looked at us and walked right up to the truck, on Dan's side ~ with his window rolled up. After he rolled down his window, she gave us a heads up on the status of the avalanche and then walked away. Dan was so surprised he said, "I thought I wasn't very approachable!"
I blurted out loud that I knew why we were stuck. We forgot to say a prayer before we left, that we would arrive safely. Chloe said we should just say a prayer now. She did and asked for Jesus to clear the road so we could get to Grandpa and Grandma.
About 10 minutes later this big snow plow came to shovel the avalanche away!!! Seth was totally distracted by the two big orange shovels on the dump truck and after it had started to do it's job he shouted, "but I wanted to see Jesus!" I didn't actually see who was driving...

I didn't look behind us but there was a line up of cars miles long that we finally got to pass. I am so glad that winter is almost over. I'm so glad that we made it to the cabin before they sent out a search party. I am so glad that I made it to the bathroom before there was a different kind of newsworthy story to report!!! I'm sure there will still be some snow in Logan Canyon but
c'mon!!! Spring, please come soon!
