Easter

Sunday, April 4, 2010

I'm so glad that Jeanette was able to bring the chicks for pictures this year.  I love the little fluffs of feathers and the kids' excitment and nervouseness when they are brave enough to hold them.  The yellowest chick kept pooping on Chloe and she decided she was done and would rather jump on the tramp any way!

Taste a Rainbow

I try to have enough patience so that she can help me in the kitchen.  Some days it is just too much to ask.  Not today.  I have been so excited for St. Patricks Day to come.  This is the first year that I have thought about it in advance and actually bought groceries accordingly ~ and I am already planning different holiday themed meals!!!  I had Chloe get the eggs out of the fridge and asked her to crack all six of them in the bosch mixing bowl.  I was in the hallway and I heard her gasp and I'm pretty sure I could hear her little heart just a racing away.  She dropped an egg!!!  We clean it up and laughed, I told her it's a good thing I bought extras!  She was covered in egg white and I had to fish out a few shells but she did an awesome job!

After mixing up two boxes of cake batter we divided it into six paper bowls.  I added the food coloring paste and Chloe mixed them in.  She would try to guess the color from the paste and kept surprising herself when she was wrong!

They made such beautiful colors:
It was kind of messy spooning each color into the cupcake liners but we each did 12 and after my third color, I rumaged through my drawer and got out my pampered chef scoops, which made the whole process go much faster!  We started with purple and worked our way backwards to red.  She kept wondering what in the world we were doing.  I kept teasing her to be patient.  Once we got them in the oven she was so excited because we were going to surprise Dan and Seth {who was napping}.  I told her we would hurry and frost them and they would never know what was inside the cupcakes!!!
We read the story of Noah and talked about rainbows and the promises Heavenly Father makes!
They didn't turn out exactly like the picture in the family fun magazine, but we had a good time making them.  If you thought the cupcakes in the stone muffin pan were too full you would have been right.  Those were the twelve that I made and they didn't turn out...  which made Chloe even prouder!

It all starts with a song!
A Lesson:

Then refreshments:

We also helped Grandma celebrate her upcoming birthday!
There was actually enough candles on the cake to represent each year of grandma's life! The taller candles were melting and bending in half due to the extreme heat!!!

Thanks Brad and Jeanette for great food, lesson and fun!
