Fire Station Adventure

Monday, February 9, 2015

Yesterday at church two assistant den leaders were called and sustained!  I am so excited to be able to work with Lisa Thayne and Rachel George.  Lisa's son Tyler is in our den and Rachel's husband is a Weblos leader.  With the help from our Primary Presidency Counselor, Neeley Reed, we got everyone to the firehouse where Treir Allen works.  He led the boys on a tour starting with the office of the fire cheif, the conference rooms, the bedrooms, the kitchen and tv room.

Then locker room and the GARAGE!!!
What is it with boys and heavy machinery?
Treir tried to tell them that the front of the truck is called the rear and the back of the truck is called the front.  He showed them all of the valves and attachments:
He showed them the Jaws of Life.  The top tool acts like scissors and the bottom one is like a spreader.  I didn't know they were gas powered.
He kept telling the boys, "put your hands down, I haven't asked any questions!"  He was so funny, he kept trying to trick the boys but only succeeded in fooling the leaders...
While showing us how many axes are on the truck, one of the boys fixated on the cooler and yes, it is filled full of ice with drinks for tired and thirsty fire fighters!
It was awesome, I asked Treir if we could provide some kind of service.  Dan suggested the boys could wash the fire trucks!!!  All through the tour, he joked about 1st cleaning the toilets, then 2nd making the beds!
When he told them that they needed to stand back so the firemen could back all of the trucks out so that the boys could mop the floors, none of them believed him!!!

It was awesome!!!  And then I had them pretend they were sliding down the fire pole:

Our Trip to the Fire Station

Friday, March 9, 2012

On the way home from Willard Bay we planned to stop at Pace's for an ice cream cone.  We get one every time we catch a fish!  Just before pulling off of the free way, Seth started whimpering that his finger was stuck.  He really didn't put up that much of a fuss but Dan told him we were going to stop for the cone and asked him if he could wait for some help.

Now that Chloe has turned eight and no longer needs a booster seat, we leave her old car seat in Dan's truck.  There is a little hole in Seth's booster seat (in my car) that he likes to stick his finger in and it makes a little popping sound.  It doesn't work quite the same way in the old one and we found this out when he started to get really upset.  Once we pulled off the road, Dan tried to get it out  ~ but his little ring finger would not come loose.  We pulled out the first aid kit and rubbed some ointment on his finger from both sides of the seat, very tricky!  But still no luck.  We couldn't pull him out of the truck because his seat belt was in the middle.  I don't know what I would have done but Dan just got back in the truck, calmed the little boy down and drove to the fire station!  He ran inside and came back out with a Fireman!!!
The fireman used his trusty flash light to search under the seat for any clues as to how to release his finger from its trap.  After a few minutes, which seamed like forever to Seth and me, he was able to bend the plastic and see a little ray of light shine through.  He bent the seat again, just enough for Seth's finger to slip loose and the tears of relief to start flowing!  Dan was so glad that the seat belt didn't have to be cut.  I was so glad that he wouldn't be joining Auntie Laura's 9 finger club!!!
Seth was so glad to have gotten a personal invitation to return to the firehouse for a private tour and he even got an official junior fireman sticker badge.  With just a little swelling, we even went back for his ice cream cone!
